Novartis UK proudly continues over 20 years of Community Partnership
May 30, 2019
At Novartis UK, one of our key corporate social responsibility activities is our annual Community Partnership Day. Each year, our people volunteer their time to local organisations and charities that make a real difference to local communities.
Earlier this month, Novartis hosted its 23rd Community Partnership Day. Led by our UK CEO Haseeb Ahmad who volunteered his time in West London, more than 300 associates from our three sites used this important day to support 28 local non-profit organisations across the UK. Our team took part in a range of activities, from carrying out maintenance at sheltered housing, to providing computer skills training and redecorating community centres.
At Novartis, our mission is to discover new ways to improve and extend people's lives. We believe this important principle applies not just to the development of medicines and health technologies, but to all aspects of how we operate. Here are some examples of the great projects our teams collaborated on this year:
Bishop Creighton House (Hammersmith and Fulham)
Building strong relationships and fostering teamwork with the local community in West London, our people spent the day redecorating Bishop Creighton House community centre and providing computer skills training to some of the service users. Bishop Creighton House aims to tackle the problems caused by social isolation and disadvantage in West London. The team was joined by the local Fulham and Hammersmith MP, Andy Slaughter, who gave a warm welcome to our Novartis UK Country President Haseeb Ahmad and the rest of the team.
The Upper Room Organisation (West London)
Novartis UK associates carried out a broad range of activities at The Upper Room, from garden maintenance to fundraising. This London charity has been helping the socially disadvantaged since 1990 and offers a number of services that provide people with the tools and skills they need to get back on their feet including evening meals and multi-lingual employment support.
Leonard Cheshire (Northern Ireland)
Our Northern Ireland team devoted a day to rejuvenating the gardens at sheltered housing site ‘The Maples’, with health and welfare charity Leonard Cheshire. Leonard Cheshire supports disabled individuals to live, learn and work as independently as they choose, whatever their ability.
Community Partnership Day is an important milestone in the global Novartis calendar. Our core values teach us that we all have a responsibility to the communities that we live and work in, and through strengthening community relationships and serving our society we can make a fundamental difference to people’s lives.
