Today, Thursday 29th September 2016, marks World Heart Day - an international initiative to raise awareness of cardiovascular disease.
Heart failure occurs when the heart muscle cannot pump a normal amount of oxygen-rich blood around the body; this has a substantial impact on patients’ daily life. In the UK, around 900,000 people are diagnosed with heart failure and, sadly, up to 40% of patients do not survive one year after their first hospital admission.
At Novartis we have been dedicated to improving outcomes for people affected by heart failure for many years, and it is our goal to support people affected by long-term conditions, such as heart failure, to live life to the fullest. We remain committed to scientific research and collaborations with patient groups in this area to achieve this goal.
