Joint working project summary:
NHS Research Scotland (NRS) and the Scottish Cancer Research Network (SCRN) have come together with Novartis Pharmaceuticals and Boehringer Ingelheim, both ABPI SCIG member companies, to work jointly on a Project entitled ‘Scottish Cancer Research Working with Industry Forum’. The Scottish forum sets out to improve cancer patient outcomes through increased access to innovative cancer trials in Scotland. The forum will identify the challenges and create solutions around conducting clinical trials in Scotland to increase both the quality and quantity of clinical cancer research in Scotland.
Milestone 1: Host an educational conference with an agenda focused on Scottish research capability in a global market and workshops to develop action plans to:
Raise the profile of the investigator with industry
Develop novel strategies to increase patient recruitment
Attract and increase the number of international studies in Scotland
Milestone 2:The forum will meet and review solutions and implementations of the above action plans and their subsequent outcomes.
Milestone 3: An independent survey tool will be utilised to establish if strategies raised and developed through the forum have successfully improved NHS and industry medical interactions.
