Project Name: The development of the OpenEyesTM Injection Module to enable East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust to allow the collection, storage and management of community and secondary care patient data in a single software system with the aim of optimising patient care.
Joint Working Project Summary:
There is a need to develop a single electronic patient record system that supports timely clinical decision making and minimises potential errors by enabling patients’ notes to be contained in one repository. Therefore, the parties intend to establish a Joint Working Project for the purpose of creating an injection module – this is a software feature that will allow the recording of patient injection data in a system called OpenEyesTM. Thus providing a single patient record, encompassing both clinical and injection data. The OpenEyesTM injection module will be ‘open access’, allowing any Trust or service using Open Eyes to also benefit from this new feature.
The Joint Working Project aims to achieve:
• development and roll out of a single electronic record for patients attending Medical Retina clinics to improve access to patient information to increase efficiencies, reduce duplication, reduce risk of errors;
• establishment of an audit trail and data collection facilities that allow outcome reporting, research and future service demand forecasting;
• improvement of overall patient experience.
Expected Patient Outcomes for this Project:
• Improved patient experience by offering appropriate treatment within a suitable timeframe;
• improved patient safety by moving to a digital system for patient records, reducing the number of potential errors; and
• improved patient satisfaction of service received in community
Start Date and Duration:
March 2020 to September 2021; 18 months
