As a Team Lead in Scientific Writing, you will manage a team of in-house Scientific Writers whose day-to-day work involves producing an array of high-quality medical communication documents from publication plans, manuscripts, abstracts, and posters to medical education materials; as well as supporting scientific events, such as congress, symposia, and advisory boards.
The Scientific Writing Team Lead will also be responsible for managing and working with writers based both in Dublin and the UK, providing day-to-day resource management, guidance, leadership, and direction for their growth and development.

Please note: This a Home Working position therefore you would be working remotely full time, however you must be based within the United Kingdom.

Your responsibilities:

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Lead a Scientific Writing team (of up to 12 FTEs) to ensure timely delivery of high-quality and scientifically correct medical communications materials for the global, regional and country organisations in the assigned therapeutic area.
• Accountable for overall quality and accuracy of the scientific content (data accuracy and scientific messaging) of all materials produced by the team.
• Lead on priority setting, workload distribution and resource planning, with the aim of ensuring both adequate assignment of resource to projects and balance of workload across the team.
• Proactive in anticipating change in direction and workload, and planning accordingly to minimise impact on writers and delivery; meticulous in driving the implementation of team goals and metrics.
• Cost and scope for projects in line with the client brief, being aware of and keeping on top of budget allocations, and ensuring financial records are accurately maintained to help meet financial targets.
• Attend/lead project briefing calls, regular client status calls, scientific writing team meetings, and knowledge share sessions.
• Responsible for recruiting talent, managing performance (including objective setting, review of performance and compensation), and developing and motivating writers (via development/training plans, ongoing performance review, coaching/mentoring, as appropriate).
• Develop and implement appropriate management control systems to ensure quality deliverables, and compliance with guidelines, processes and SOPs.
• Support the development of functional and scientific excellence for identified brands by collaborating with other team members, function heads and customers.

Minimum requirements

• Minimum of Science degree or equivalent, B.Sc./ M.Sc./M.Pharm
• 8-10 years in the Medical Communications business, either in the Pharma Industry or Medical Communications agencies
• 3-5 years of experience in leadership / people management roles
• Good understanding of work processes for Medical Communications / Scientific Writing
• Excellent written and oral English
• Pro-active and ability to work independently
• Demonstrate initiative and flexibility through effective and innovative leadership
• Attention to detail and quality focused, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, good influence, negotiation and diplomacy skills, and demonstrated people management skills
