Our commitment: Improving health through responsible business
We are committed to creating a culture of integrity and we believe that, as a global leader in healthcare, we have a responsibility to serve as a role model in how we conduct our business. We focus our corporate responsibility work on two areas that underscore our mission:
Expanding access to healthcare
Doing business responsibly and transparently
We care for our associates, contribute to our local communities, and strive to operate with high integrity and transparency.
Expanding access to healthcare
We have a long history of collaboration with the NHS – we work closely with our NHS partners to find sustainable solutions that transform patient care and improve patient experiences and outcomes. This is known as joint working. We have been involved in over 140 joint working initiatives with the NHS across the UK since 2011.
Novartis is the largest commercial sponsor of clinical trials in the UK, supporting over 10% of all trials, which helps many patients get early access to innovative medicines.
We are also working with NHS trusts to lead the way in implementing value-based healthcare. That’s because we want to be rewarded for the tangible health benefits our medicines provide patients, not simply for how many we sell. We believe that the value of medicines should be assessed and determined based on the benefits they offer clinically; to the patient, to the NHS and to society. To deliver for patients and the NHS, Novartis works with Trusts to develop new value-based healthcare models that improve care and outcomes for patients.
Outside the UK, we work to control and eliminate diseases such as malaria and leprosy, pioneer new business approaches to reach underserved patients, and find new treatments and adaptive solutions to improve health in developing countries.
Novartis makes every effort to comply with national and international standards for disclosure of clinical trial information. Results are made publicly available whatever their outcome. Access to this information helps people to make informed decisions about potential treatment options as well as potential participation in clinical studies.
Novartis publicly discloses all financial information related to collaborations, whether payments have been made to NHS institutions, healthcare professionals or patient groups. We also encourage all individuals to disclose details of their payments from us.
One of our key corporate social responsibility activities is our annual Community Partnership Day. This global event provides an opportunity for our UK associates to dedicate their work day to volunteering in charitable activities, which make a difference in local communities.
Our mission is to discover new ways to improve and extend people's lives. Our vision is to be a trusted leader in changing the practice of medicine. We aspire to have a strong and sustainable culture defined by core values which help us execute the Novartis strategy in line with our mission and vision. We collaborate closely with partners who share a common vision and complementary strengths to achieve success. Our strategy is to use science-based innovation to deliver better patient outcomes. We aim to lead in growing areas of healthcare.
