Our commitment: improving health through responsible business.
We are committed to creating a culture of integrity and we believe that, as a global leader in healthcare, we have a responsibility to serve as a role model in how we conduct our business. We focus our corporate responsibility work on two areas that underscore our mission, expanding access to healthcare and doing business responsibly. We care for our associates, contribute to our local communities, and strive to operate with high integrity and transparency.
Expanding access to healthcare
We work to control and eliminate diseases such as malaria and leprosy, pioneer new business approaches to reach underserved patients, and find new treatments and adaptive solutions to improve health in developing countries. In 2014, these efforts reached more than 72 million people.
In the UK, we work closely with the NHS to identify ways to re-shape, improve and optimise care patients receive. This is known as joint working.
Novartis UK is the largest commercial sponsor of clinical trials in the UK, supporting over 10% of all trials which helps many patients get early access to innovative medicines.
Novartis has recently had two new medicines designated as Promising Innovation Medicine (PIM) products, including the first medicine outside of the oncology field.
Transparency across the public sector, including healthcare, is increasingly being demanded by the general public, and Novartis believes that transparency is good for everyone.
One of our key corporate social responsibility activities is our annual Community Partnership Day. Community Partnership Day provides an opportunity for employees at all our UK sites to dedicate their work day to volunteering in charitable activities, which make a difference in local communities.
