B110 reactor floorIn the UK, chemical operations for Novartis are based in Grimsby on the south bank of the river Humber.  Chemical operations involve the manufacture of intermediate and drug substances for a range of pharmaceuticals.
 

Since establishing the site in 1951, there has been extensive development, and in the last 15 years alone £600 million has been invested in the buildings and equipment.

NGL B110 reactor In 2005, a new and impressive £179.5 million building was opened and this building centres on the manufacture of active ingredients for leading Novartis products, working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
During 2005, the site gained its 5th Diamond Award for 14 years excellent safety in occupational health and it continues in its commitment to caring for the environment.  Novartis aims to achieve a 5% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions by 2012 and is currently assessing the viability of using up to 3 wind turbines to provide a proportion of the site electricity.
