Rewards & Compensation

Rewards and compensation at Novartis"At Novartis, we believe associates who are engaged, developed, and stretched need to be rewarded. To pay for performance is one of the guiding principles of Novartis' compensation strategy. We offer compensation and benefits programmes that drive the achievement of our business objectives. Our compensation & benefits package is designed to attract, motivate and retain associates that share Novartis values and contribute to our high performance organisation."

Global Head Compensation and Benefits

Our total compensation programme is one of the best. It has been designed to be directly competitive with our peer groups of high performing companies. We link reward with business and individual success both in the short and long term. This structure is typically composed of three elements: fixed base salary, variable short-term and long-term incentives. The performance-oriented variable parts of the compensation package may take the form of cash, stock options or shares. These are linked to the business results of our Divisions and Business Units, as well as individual performance.

Personal and business targets are set in line with global Division and Business Unit objectives. A primary goal of Novartis' total compensation structure is that total compensation should directly reflect both individual and Novartis performance. This pay for performance approach leads to total compensation at superior levels for high performers.
